Ukraine refused to host Eurovision 2023
EBU to start talks on moving Eurovision 2023 from Ukraine to UK
Ukraine refused to host the Eurovision Song Contest in 2023, the event will be given to the UK. This is stated in the statement of the European Broadcasting Union (EBU), which is the organizer of the contest.
It is noted that the governing board of the music competition came to the conclusion that the current circumstances do not allow to fulfill “the guarantees of security and operation, which, according to the rules, are necessary for the broadcaster to conduct, organize and produce the Eurovision Song Contest”. The EBU stressed that Ukraine’s victory “will be reflected in next year’s show” regardless of where the event takes place.
The organization also stressed that they would soon begin negotiations with the British Broadcasting Corporation BBC to hold an event on behalf of Ukraine in the UK in 2023.
Earlier, Deputy Head of the Office of the President of the country Kyrylo Tymoshenko said that Ukraine had begun preparations for hosting the Eurovision Song Contest in 2023. According to him, the priority issue for the Ukrainian authorities and the European Broadcasting Union is the security of the song contest, so the Ministry of Defense and the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine were involved in the preparation.
