Villain-style latex clothing is the new trend
Who What Wear fashion editor Jasmine Fox-Suliaman called “villainous” clothing a new trend. The relevant material appeared on the portal website.
Thus, the expert classified outfits made of leather and latex, including gloves and masks, as products of this type. Similar wardrobe items appeared, for example, in the latest collections of the Balenciaga brand and the American fashion designer Christian Siriano, who was inspired by the images of the heroes of the film “The Matrix” by the Wachowski brothers, the journalist noted.
In addition, the list includes miniskirts, chunky chokers, high boots, biker jackets and chains, all of which are inspired by the punk rock aesthetic. These things could be seen at the shows of brands such as Balmain and Versace. Lace and lacing also became attributes of this style. In addition, the specialist explained that a characteristic feature of the trend is that the choice of these products does not depend on the season.
According to Fox-Suliaman, the term “life in the era of villains” was first used by TikTok users to describe the current historical period with its massive problems: conflicts, a pandemic and economic instability. At the same time, the villain in this case is characterized as an exhausted and disturbed person who prioritizes his own needs, rather than pleasing others or following social norms.
Earlier in June, it was reported that emo clothing was back in fashion amid global turmoil. So, the manager of the Depop online platform, Agustina Panzoni, noted that the revival of emo outfits has been brewing over the past few years. According to the manager, the growing demand was influenced by the re-emergence of pop-punk music represented by MGK, Yungblud, Willow Smith and Olivia Rodrigo. At the same time, Serena Lee, a lecturer in the “fashion” direction at the London College of Modern Arts, substantiated this phenomenon not only by the cyclical nature of fashion, but also by tragic events on a global scale.
