Turkish Airlines to be renamed
Turkish Airlines will be rebranded in Turkey – the carrier will change its name to Türkiye Hava Yolları. This is reported by the publication Haberturk.
As President of the Republic Recep Tayyip Erdogan stated, the renaming is a symbolic step timed to coincide with the change of the country’s name from Turkey to Türkiye in official international documents.
“And from now on, we will not write Turkish Airlines on the fuselages of our liners, there will be Türkiye Havayollar,” the head of state emphasized.
On June 2, the United Nations (UN) approved the request of Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu to change the name of the country in foreign languages. The name of the state in official international documents has changed from Turkey to Türkiye.
In December 2021, Erdogan signed a decree renaming Turkey’s export brand. According to the document, the new name Türkiye is aimed at increasing the recognition of the country’s products around the world.
